Check out my new book!

Really. I'm a published author at 10 months old - thanks to Mommy. Here's my new book, I am Thankful.

I also appeared in a book by Mommy back when I was only 8 months old! Where's Baby Clark's Pumpkin?

You can even order your very own hardbound copy. I sure feel important.

Thanksgiving

Wow! It's been a while since I last posted. I apologize. It has nothing to do with my mommy going back to work, I've just been really busy. I'm what my parents call "mobile" now. I can crawl, pull myself up on things, climb the stairs, eat people food and get into all kinds of trouble!:) Here are some pics from my latest adventure. It was something called "Thanksgiving". All I know is that I got lot of good food and I helped with the prayer and a toast ("Baa, baa, baa, baa" really says it all).Grandma played swoop the pumpkin with me and I fell in love with a baby in the mirro. I also got to wave goodbye 25 times- that was fun!

I Teach People Too!

My Daddy says "pets and babies" teach people more about technology than he ever will. And I'm a baby! So Daddy made this video of me when he went to work today. I like it.

A Day at the Park

Mommy says Monkeys love to swing so of course I loved loved loved my first time of the swing.

Summer Boredom

No one came to visit me today.
Mommy didn't take me for a walk.
We didn't even go to the pool.
I'm climbing the walls-literally.

First Cut

For the first time in my life, I got... to fly my own plane. It was so much fun! It had a shiny wheel at the front and a big mirror so I could see myself. There was even a big television, but it wasn't playing the Food Network (it was something called CARTOONS) so I didn't pay much attention to it. Some guy in an orange shirt kept squirting me with water and throwing hair on me. I think I was going really fast in my plane, but it might have been mommy and daddy blowing WIND on me. I had a great time and got lots of kissed afterward.

With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

I finally sat up all by myself. Not nuzzled in the corner of a couch, not leaning against a pillow, not propped up by my hands-all by myself. But then I went to get a closer look at mommy's computer and fell face first hitting my cheek on the computer and getting stuck in the crack on the couch.

Then at night, I rolled myself all the way over to my tummy, but didn't really want to stay that way and I couldn't roll back. Geez, so many problems being a big kid!

Mommy and Daddy Time

Mommy and Daddy had a celebration on Wednesday. They called it an anniversary, which means I got to play with Henry and Maggie all day and go to the pool. Then at night I got to play with Aunt Rhonda and Uncle Kevin. She read me more of those great pop-up books. I heard Mommy and Daddy say something about a helicopter, Catalina, and other words I didn't understand, but I think they had a good time too.

Hawaii

Yes, I loved the birthplace of my mother, not only because of the spectacular WIND and many pinata smashing opportunities (which I found out is called SPLASHING when you do it in water), but the people are so friendly and full of smiles. The pool was instant fun, but the beach is a little scarier and it took me a few days to realize I could also SPLASH there. Also there is more in and out at the beach. Daddy kept picking me up and putting me down again so the big splashes he called WAVES wouldn't get me. Also we had to keep going back to the water from our towel. First to get wet, then back in to wash off the rocks I was hiding in my toes, then back in to wash off the big spit up I did, then back in to wash my hand that wandered off the towel and got all messy, then back in for pictures- and we were only there for 15 min:) But I had a lot of fun and played so hard that I took my biggest naps ever. Mommy said that it was like last year when they were here. She took her biggest naps ever too 'cause her tummy didn't feel good ('cause I was inside her), but this year she said was better because she could have something called MAI TAIs.

Top 5 Ways to Make a Mess

1. Drool...a lot.
2. Drool, keep it in your mouth, then put your fingers in your mouth and blow.
3. Spit up... after eating prunes.
4. Spit up, keep it in your mouth, then put your fingers in your mouth and blow.
5. While eating, hit the spoon when its full of food so it goes up your nose. Bonus points if it lands on Mommy.

Bath Time

Daddy says I'm almost done with my baby tub (something about me getting everything & everyone wet with my splashes) so I thought I better blog about it before I forget how much fun its been. Daddy is in charge of giving me a bath and its lots of fun. He sings all sorts of silly songs and pours bubbles go all over me.

There is another baby that gets a bath at the same time and I like to watch him and say hi.

Then I get dried off.

Then Daddy gives me tummy time while he combs my hair, which he insists make me more handsome, but I think I look pretty good before.

Then he takes me to get kisses from Mommy (she really likes kissing clean babies).

Fourth of July!

I had a great 4th! Mommy & Daddy walked me to the grocery store where they got lots of colorful things & I got to suck on the baby bjorn the whole way. Then we hung out in the backyard while they "BBQed". I laughed at mommy as she tried a million times to light a match. [That surprised my parents:)] I got a bottle while they ate their salmon burgers and grilled peaches. Then we had a bath and I stayed up late. There were some beautiful lights in the sky and big booms at 9:00, only problem was that mommy and daddy put me to bed at 8:59. Oh well, maybe next year!

Training

Many people wonder why I am constantly batting at objects, even the air, flailing my arms and legs. Well, to clear up any misunderstandings, I am training for an exciting career in professional pinata smashing. So toys, blankets, my rice cereal bowl, even mommy and daddy are target practice. watch out!

The Great Escape

Yes. I like to wiggle a lot.
This picture demonstrates my skill at wiggling even when I am asleep. My snuggly, which is still velcroed shut, is up around my shoulders so my hands are free, also I have freed one half of my body from my diaper.
I am good.

Funnest Thing Ever!

We have a beautiful big tree in the backyard with tons of mini pink flowers. Mommy took me out back to see it up close today. She would make some Wind (by "blowing") and the flowers would jump and dance, some even fell to the ground. It made me giggle so hard everytime she did it. I didn't know flowers like Wind too!

Daddy Day Care

Mommy had to go back to work for the last 3 days of school. (She cried when she first stepped into the office, but after that had a really good time.) I got to hang out with Daddy in his office for 2 days and then I visited Great Auntie Rhonda [who has a Wind called Ocean Breeze:)] Daddy did a very good job keeping me on my schedule and giving me things to put in my mouth, so I had a good time. He made up a horsey song that made me laugh and laugh. Aunt Rhonda and I blew bubbles and stuck out our tongues at each other. She read me some stories, which I of course loved, but the pictures in her books pop out of the page- it was almost too much excitement for my little 4 month old body to contain:) I had so much fun I didn't even notice mommy was gone, but I was happy to see her when she came home. We had a special time laying in the bed ('cause she was tired), laughing and eating and singing all the Kindergarten songs that were stuck in her head.

The World of Fruit & Vegetables

I have long watched with great interest as Mommy and Daddy put strange and vividly colored things into their mouths, and now finally I too get the chance to put something not white in my mouth. And I must say... I love it. I have tried green beans, bananas, peas, carrots, and pears. Carrots are my favorite, probably because they are orange like Mr. Monkey. I do have a ritual I like to practice when getting a new food. When it first hits my delicate palate I say nothing, but savor the flavor wide eyed. Then open my mouth gingerly for another taste. That second taste is followed by an approving "MMMMM" and then I open my mouth wide and try to shove the spoon in myself. When we are done, I will cry to indicate my love for this new food, then I will spit it up.

Drooling vs. Spitting

I've been doing a little research to answer the age old question, which is better, drooling or spitting? and I've learned that both have their benefits and drawbacks.

Drooling is by far easier. Just stare at something interesting with your mouth open and it just comes out, whereas for spitting you first have to create the drool and then muster a trumpeting of the lips which requires quite a burst of energy.

Spitting however is far cleaner. By spitting you spray your drool or rice cereal (or whatever happens to be on your face at the moment) onto the person holding you. Drooling just gets you personally all wet.

Spitting has the added benefit of getting a much bigger reaction than drool. Don't get me wrong- a proper drool can bring some well deserved praise, maybe even a chorus of oohs and ahhs. But spit up surprises your audience so that they act quite dramatically, lifting you into the air (away from them) while jerking their head back and forth loudly hailing your profound ability.

Still, I have found the evidence to be inconclusive so far and will continue my research for the greater good of humanity.

watch me grow!

Pond Expansion

There has been some construction in ToyLand and my 2X3' pond has now been expanded into a circular sit and spin we now call "the circus". The Circus is great, but a little overwhelming. There are lots of fun things to look at, listen to and touch, but after trying for 15 min to stick things in my mouth I finally end up with tears and a puddle of drool in my realization that "it ain't gonna happen". Mommy says they arefixed in place and don't move, but I don't understand how that is even possible. I can pull everything else to my mouth: binkys, toys, blankets, burp rags, mommy's hair, mommy's shirt, mommy's fingers, mommy's arm...Anyway, sometimes when I get upset with a toy for not cooperating, I just need a little reminder that there are other toys in the world and mommy spins me a few inches and viola, there's another toy for me to try to coax in my mouth.

Spoons!

I am now eating rice cereal!!! It is so yummy and exciting. I get one Tablespoon mixed with milk everyday at lunch. I have learned a few important things in a few short days.

#1 When the spoon comes, open your mouth. That way the food goes right in, although I do enjoy eating it off my bib too.
#2 Do not inhale when you're swallowing, even though you are so excited you want to gasp for joy.
#3 Don't kick mommy's arm when she has the spoon, it takes longer for the food to get to you.
#4 Try not to cry when mommy goes too slow, it makes it harder to swallow when crying, and then it takes longer for the food to get to you.
#5 Don't talk while eating. (I forget this one a lot) Even though you want to tell everyone how good it tastes, wait til later, because otherwise, it takes longer for the food to get to you.

Yosemite

I took a very long drive in the car to a fantastical place called Yosemite. At first I was a bit cranky in this new place because it was so hot, and I had just had my shots yesterday, but Daddy and Mommy soon figured out how to keep me happy in the air conditioning and rocking me to sleep in my stroller by doing a lap around each restaurant. Daddy was busy teaching people about computer stuff and how to use blogs like this one, but I was busy making lots of new friends at the pool, in the lobby, in the elevator... On the last day the whole family got up at my early feeding (that never happens) and we drove to into the Valley where we saw BIG rocks and even BIGGER waterfalls that looked like milk (Yum!)
I liked walking around in the Baby Bjorn with my sunglasses on. Everybody smiled at me and said how cute I was. I touched a tree.
I got wet with Daddy by the falls.

I had so much fun I fell asleep.

I like this place Daddy calls Nature. (PS. They have wind here too!)

James' Graduation

I took my first trip on a PLANE this weekend. Boy was it fun. The first plane ride I was a little grumpy because the announcements were so loud and I was trying to sleep! But the ride back was better 'cause I got to sit in my own seat and slept the whole way. I went to a cold place called San Francisco to watch Uncle James graduate. All the people made loud noises with their hands, that was crazy and I wasn't sure if I like it, but Daddy was doing it to so I figured it was okay. Later he told me it was called Clapping. I hung out at the afterparty and everybody wanted to meet me. They said I was sooo cute! We had a fun time walking around the city too, (they have Wind there too) and I slept in many different restaurants. The best part was giving Mommy her first mother's day card. When she read it, she got happy wet eyes. She loves me sooo much:)

Daddy Time

Today when Daddy came home from work, he helped Mommy give me a bath. And then he read me a story. I was a very good listener. I love my Daddy time!

I Can Laugh!

I learned a new trick this week called laughing. It's so much fun. Mommy says I laugh just like a big boy. I love to laugh most on the changing table when I get tickled. Sometimes I laugh so hard, I can't breathe, so I only laugh once or twice and then I save the rest of my laughs for another time. But it sure makes Mommy and Daddy happy.

My new friend Ben

Yesterday, I made a new friend Ben. He's 11 months old and he can control his hands. He took my binky out of my mouth, spit his own out and put in mine! I didn't mind sharing; he's pretty cool. :) He has the best smile and it made me smile and laugh every time he came close to touch my feet. I can't wait to play with him again!

Discovering Wind

The other day my parents took me to someplace called a park. It was very green and very sunny. But the most remarkably thing I found there was something called Wind. It was wonderful. First time I've ever felt it and I love it. It was tingly and soft. It swept over me gently at first and then attacked me with coolness. It made a great sound too, rattling the leaves so they fell in my face. Mommy said it looked like I was on a roller coaster ride, the way I shook with glee and then how it took my breath away during the strong parts. I can't wait to go back.

Here's a video of me and my silly parents at the park. You can see my reaction to the wind about 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the five minute video.
